Roy Taylor

Roy Taylor is Professor of Medicine and Metabolism at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Honorary Consultant Physician at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, UK. Professor Taylor has recently established the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre, a new facility to further the medical and scientific knowledge by in vivo study of human physiology. His major research concerns the direct assessment of muscle and liver triglyceride and glycogen storage after meals in normal and type 2 diabetic subjects. His other recent research activities include the postprandial control of endogenous glucose production, and demonstration of the abolition of avoidable blindness in working age people with diabetes by use of a District-wide photographic retinal screening programme. He has authored over 160 original papers and reviews. Professor Taylor has delivered several named lectures, including the Croom Lectureship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the RD Lawrence Lectureship of the British Diabetic Association, the Honyman-Gillespie Lecture of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and the Arnold Bloom Lecture of Diabetes UK. He qualified in medicine at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and subsequently trained in Edinburgh, Dundee, Newcastle upon Tyne and Yale University.
