US Endocrinology Volume 13 - Issue 1 - Summer 2017

Welcome to the summer 2017 edition of US Endocrinology. As always, we have included a selection of timely and relevant review articles and editorials written by key opinion leaders in the endocrinology arena.

This edition covers a variety of topics. First, we have an expert interview with Linda Siminerio, who explains the implications of the new psychosocial position statement from the American Diabetes Association. We also have two interesting editorials, one from Claude K Lardinois, who discusses the combination of hyperfiltration and albuminuria and the increased risk of coronary heart disease, and another from Sanjay Kalra, who provides a useful checklist for timely and appropriate insulin initiation and usage in type 2 diabetes.

This edition also includes two review articles and two pieces of original research. Firstly, M Loredana Marcovecchio looks at the complications of acute and chronic hyperglycemia and, secondly, Maria F Bates et al. discuss the topic of ensuring quality in thyroid cancer surgery. Vivek Aggarwal et al. present their research on endoscopic thyroidectomy in a tertiary setting in Delhi, India and Fatima Younis Al Slail et al. share their findings from a focus group discussion on physician awareness in diabetes management during Ramadan.

Finally, we present a case report of a rare association between right thyroid hemiagenesis, lingual thyroid, and papillary thyroid cancer from Umal Azmat et al.

We do hope you enjoy this issue and welcome any feedback. Happy reading!
