A world leader in Generic Pharmaceuticals

Sandoz, a Novartis company, is world leader in generic pharmaceuticals. The company develops, manufactures and markets these medicines as well as pharmaceutical and biotechnological active ingredients. With the approval of the European Commission and the US Federal Trade Commission granted in May and in July 2005, Hexal AG, Germany‘s leading generics company, and Eon Labs, one of the fastest-growing generic pharmaceuticals companies in the US, are part of Sandoz.

These acquisitions significantly strengthen Sandoz’ technology base and expand the already strong capabilities in pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals and anti-infectives. The company now has a competitive and broad product portfolio with a leading presence in key markets, including the US and Germany, as well as a portfolio of more than 600 active ingredients in over 5,000 dosage forms.

Sandoz reported sales of USD 3.0 billion in 2004. By now, the combined company employs more than 20,000 people in over 110 countries. Its global headquarters is located in Holzkirchen, Germany.

Sandoz is a leading global supplier of high-quality generic pharmaceuticals. A generic pharmaceutical product is the bioequivalent of a brand name pharmaceutical. This includes dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. Generic pharmaceuticals are held to the same rigid standards as the innovator product, as dictated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies throughout the world. Although generic pharmaceuticals are chemically identical to their branded counterparts, they traditionally cost consumers less than the brand product.

The finished dosage forms are sold to wholesalers, pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare outlets. Our Anti-Infectives unit manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates for internal requirements and industrial partners.
