Jeffrey I Mechanick

Jeffrey I Mechanick, MD, is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Director of Metabolic Support in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone Disease, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City, US. Dr Mechanick was appointed as a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) Science Board for 2010 to 2013 and is the 2013 to 2016 Editor-in-Chief of the PCFSN quarterly publication Elevate Health. He also chairs the International Transcultural Diabetes Nutrition Algorithm Working Group. His research interests range from predictive modeling in critical illness, to thyroid cancer, metabolic bone disease, diabetes, and nutrition. He is responsible for training endocrine fellows at Mount Sinai in nutrition and metabolic support. He is the Immediate Past President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Chancellor of the American College of Endocrinology, and Past President of the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists. Dr Mechanick is in private practice in endocrinology and metabolic support in New York City, and has authored over 250 publications in endocrinology, metabolism, and nutrition support. He co-edited Nutritional Strategies for the Diabetic and Prediabetic Patient, Power of Prevention: The Complete Guide to Lifelong Nutrition, Thyroid Cancer: From Emergent Biotechnology to Clinical Practice Guidelines, and Molecular Nutrition–The Practical Guide, and co-authored Diabetes Mellitus Pocket and Nutritional Medicine Pocket. He received his MD degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, completed internal medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine, and completed an endocrine fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
