US Endocrinology Volume 14 - Issue 2 - Winter 2018

Welcome to the winter edition of US Endocrinology!

This issue features articles that tackle many of the most important issues relevant to endocrinologists, as well as reflecting the progress and challenges in this active area of clinical research. Our popular expert interviews provide concise snapshots of hot topics in medicine. Our editorials focus on the management of hypothyroidism in pediatric patients and the concept of ketocrinology in the management of type 2 diabetes.

The global epidemic of type 2 diabetes continues to be a major focus of clinical research. It been associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis, and bone health is the focus of an original research article. Given the high prevalence of prediabetes, Jeffrey Mechanick presents a new concept of T2D: the Dysglycemia-Based Chronic Disease model. In a fascinating review, Winning and Linden discuss the complicated relationship between diabetes and chronic periodontitis, in which one disease is a co-factor in the pathogenesis of the other.
